Embracing Sustainability in the OCTG Industry this Earth Day

April 22, 2024

As Earth Day approaches, we at Sooner are thrilled to share how we’re championing sustainability in the Oil Country Tubular Goods (OCTG) industry. Together with our teams at Sooner Pipe, CTAP, and TerraTech, we understand the crucial role we play in shaping a greener future, and we’re dedicated to leading by example through our eco-friendly initiatives.

Today, we’d like to introduce the SoonerGREEN team, a group of dedicated employees committed to assisting our customers with targeted green projects. From geothermal to carbon capture, hydrogen, and lithium initiatives, SoonerGREEN is here to support our customers in achieving their sustainability objectives. We recognize the importance of environmental stewardship and strive to provide reliable and efficient OCTG services tailored to our customers’ green goals.

One initiative for the SoonerGREEN team is promoting rail transport over traditional trucking methods. By utilizing rail networks, we’re able to significantly reduce our carbon footprint. Trains emit fewer greenhouse gases per ton-mile compared to trucks, making rail transport a more environmentally friendly choice for long-distance shipping. We eliminated over 36,000 trucks from the roads in 2022-2023 alone. This not only aligns with our environmental goals but also helps ease traffic congestion.

Our commitment to sustainability extends beyond managing and storing OCTG materials. We’ve also implemented small yet impactful green initiatives in our offices, such as reducing the use of single-use plastics like cups, cutlery, and coffee pods. Additionally, by allowing many office employees to work from home one day a week, we’ve embraced a flexible schedule that reduces greenhouse emissions by 20%. Through these small changes, we’re making a big difference in reducing waste and protecting our planet.

As we celebrate Earth Day, let’s reiterate our commitment to sustainability and environmental stewardship. Together, we can pave the way for a more sustainable future for generations to come. Happy Earth Day!
